City Square Mall, located at the junction of Serangoon and Kitchener Road, will soon undergo a $50 million asset enhancement initiative (AEI) and add approximately 26,000 sq ft of gross floor area (GFA) by 2025.
The 11-storey mall, owned and managed by Singapore-listed City Developments Ltd (CDL), is embracing a family and community-centric concept. This means that some of the areas previously occupied by mechanical and electrical equipment will be repurposed for sports and communal facilities, making the mall more efficient and functional.
As part of the AEI, a new 24,000 sq ft “Gastro Square” will be introduced on the fourth level of the mall. This will be accompanied by new food and beverage options, including a relocated Food Republic food court on Basement 3, spanning 9,000 sq ft. The mall’s atrium slabs on Levels 2 to 4 will also be extended to create more retail spaces.
In addition to these F&B additions, the mall will also undergo a rejuvenation with modernized interiors, additional community amenities, and sustainable features. For example, the fourth floor will be dedicated to activities for youths and families, as well as a performance area for social gatherings and events.
As part of the sustainability efforts, the mall will incorporate upcycled materials into lift lobbies and wall finishes from Basement 4 to Level 6, including murals made from sustainable materials. The upgrading works are scheduled for completion in the first half of 2025 and the mall will remain open throughout the process.
For residents in the vicinity, City Square Mall will continue to be a go-to destination for shopping and dining options. New food outlets such as Jie Traditional Bakery, Munchi Pancakes, Towkay Fried Chicken, and lemon tea vendor Taning will join existing tenants like Crave, EAT., Nam Kee Pau, and Ya Kun Kaya Toast on Basements 1 and 2.
