‘Assembly Place-TS JV secures contract for foreign healthcare workers accomodation at ‘Arina East Residences

A joint venture between Singapore co-living operator The Assembly Place and TS Group, a provider of large-scale accommodation for foreign workers and the elderly, has entered into a contract with MOH Holdings to design, retrofit and operate three lodging facilities for foreign healthcare workers who are new to Singapore. The facilities are located at 1A Short Street, 36 and 38 Teck Whye Crescent, and 207 Circuit Road.

MOH Holdings had launched a request for proposal in August of last year to appoint an operator to retrofit vacant buildings and manage hostel-type accommodation for new foreign healthcare workers on five sites, including the sites at 1A Short Street, 107 Circuit Road and 36 and 38 Teck Whye Crescent. 1A Short Street is the site of a former student hostel, while the latter two are sites of former schools.

The updated facilities will feature a co-living concept centred around community living.

“We know that many [foreign healthcare workers] are leaving their home countries for the first time, so it is very important to create a safe and comfortable environment for them,” says Eugene Lim, founder and CEO of The Assembly Place.

He continues: “By partnering with operators to develop integration programmes, we hope to smoothen the transition for our new healthcare workers to assimilate into Singapore’s healthcare system.” Lim adds that the partnership between TS Group and The Assembly Place will draw on the former’s extensive experience in operating large-scale accommodation sites and the latter’s strength in community-building.

As the holding company of Singapore’s public healthcare institutions, MOH Holdings is committed to building a supportive environment for our healthcare workers and ensuring a sustainable manpower pipeline,” says Deric Liang, deputy CEO, group finance and CFO of MOH Holdings.

The lodging facility at Short Street is targeted to be operational by the second half of this year, while the other two sites will welcome healthcare professionals in 1H2025. Together, the facilities are expected to accommodate 1,180 foreign healthcare workers.

“We look forward to creating meaningful spaces and events to welcome the healthcare professionals.” the partnership between TS Group and The Assembly Place will draw on the former’s extensive experience in operating large-scale accommodation sites and the latter’s strength in community-building.

According to a statement from The Assembly Place, the facilities will offer a mix of single and twin rooms, and are designed with sustainability and energy-efficiency in mind. The company also plans to offer community events and programmes to help new arrivals integrate into Singapore’s healthcare system and culture.

The Arina East Residences, as the facilities will be called, is part of MOH Holdings’ larger effort to support foreign healthcare workers in Singapore. The company has also introduced measures such as subsidised accommodation rates and free meals for healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
